No, something made in America is not insane, rather the opposite is true, especially when it comes to major manufacturing. The outsourcing of manufacturing in the country could affect the security and safety of this country. While you might not thing that a world war might occur again, it could and then the USA would not be able to built the required items for the defense of the country. In addition, when most of the major manufacturing is outside the country would could be held hostage should there be instability in the other country or due to oil prices greatly increasing.

Instead of just looking at the cheapest item, I would suggest that you consider other factors such as those companies which support the USA instead of just trying to profit by it.
